You don’t need to worry about getting around Disneyland because Scootaround will take care of your mobility equipment needs. We offer a unique Meet & Greet service, where we’ll deliver equipment to any Disneyland property, then have one of our friendly personnel give you an orientation so you know how to operate it before entering the parks. Give us a call at 1-888-441-7575 or email us at [email protected] and we’ll set that up for you.
No matter your age, visiting Disneyland is a wonderful experience. The characters you know and love roam the parks – Mickey! Donald! Pluto! Oh look there’s Mary Poppins! – and the live shows and parades are just magical. There are of course thrill rides and character dinners to enjoy, and lots of interesting shows to watch.
Don’t know much about Disneyland yet? Here are four attractions that you might want to check out on your first visit:
Want to navigate your way around the parks easily so you can get to these and other fabulous attractions? Call us now at 1-888-441-7575 or email us to arrange your wheelchair or electric scooter rental from Scootaround and we’ll take away your mobility issues for the duration of your Disney trip.
So long as you display your disabled parking permit from home, you’ll be able to park in one of the assigned accessible spaces at any Disney hotel or resort accommodations. If you’re staying at a Disney Deluxe Resort property, you may find that they offer disabled guests complimentary valet parking. Once you’ve parked at your resort, you don’t need to drive anywhere as getting around the parks is very easy.
World of Color
This fantastic show lights up the night every night at Disneyland. Dancing fountains, fire, laser and other special effects, and huge projection screen made of water fountains show the Disney story, as co-hosted by Mickey Mouse and actor Neil Patrick Harris, and featuring your favorite Disney and Pixar characters. The music is awesome, and the atmosphere electric. World of Color is well worth staying up after your bedtime for, even if you’ve had a long day in the parks (it starts at 9pm, so you won’t really have to stay up that late). This is a traditional Disneyland parade with a twist, and it is so much fun.
Located in the Disneyland California Adventure Park, the World of Color show is standing room only, and you can stay in your wheelchair or electric scooter to enjoy it. As with any parade or show at Disney parks, you’ll want to get there early to stake out your spot as these shows get really busy.
Pirates of the Caribbean
This classic ride inspired the series of movies featuring Johnny Depp as Captain Jack Sparrow, and over the years bit and pieces have been added to the Pirates of the Caribbean ride that respect the popularity off his character. Despite this, the ride still has a vintage feel that’s really cool to experience (it was built in 1967, and is one of the most lavish attractions every built at Disneyland or any theme park anywhere). You ride in a boat through tunnels and caverns that tell the story of the pirates, and it is thrilling and spooky and fabulous all at once. The attention to detail and special effects that are used to help tell the tale immerse you fully in the experience, and it is easy to see why so many people adore this classic ride.
In terms of accessibility, you will need to transfer from your wheelchair into the boats, but these have regular seats as opposed to the types you’d find in a real rowboat, so it shouldn’t prove too difficult (and staff are there to assist guests).
Carthay Circle Restaurant and Lounge
Disneyland offers many dining experiences that range from Mickey Mouse shaped waffles, pretzels, and ice cream to extravagant fine dining with a Disneyfied twist. Carthay Circle Restaurant and Lounge at Disneyland California Adventure Park pays homage to the golden age of Hollywood with its gorgeous lounge and archival photos decking the walls, and serves up excellent cocktails to go with the beautiful food. The menu features eclectic Southern Californian flavors that rely on fresh local ingredients. There may be a Mickey Mouse decal on your napkin, but the food here is comparable with fine restaurants in any major city.
The restaurant and lounge are fully accessible, but like any other sit down dining experience at Disney you need to make sure you’ve booked a table in advance (just turn up and you’ll likely get turned away). Pro tip: Ask for a table on the balcony and you’ll be treated to a view of Cinderella’s Castle. Get the timing right and you can enjoy the nightly fireworks with your coffee and dessert.
Jungle Cruise
This fun and laid-back ride is an original part of the park, dating back to 1955. Jungle Cruise takes you on a ride through Africa, Asia, and South America, with a guide explaining the (mechanical) animals you encounter along the way, from angry hippos to hungry lions, gorillas to tigers, and there’s even a headhunter that you need to watch out for. This isn’t exactly a thrill-ride, but it’s a lot of fun whether you’re aged three or 93. What adds to the fun is the guides on each ride, who have a full repertoire of jokes and stories to tell, leading to lots of laughs when you’re onboard.
Fully accessible, you can board this ride in your wheelchair or electric scooter, and because it is one of the older rides you’ll often find there’s little to no line-up to get on, which is refreshing as line-ups at many rides can be ridiculous
Once an event has started, no further pre-reservations will be available. Please see the attendant at the onsite booth location to book a walk-up rental.
